FAQ

Questions shops ask before switching.

45 straight answers about running your shop on BUILT — including what it doesn’t do yet.

Getting started

What is BUILT Business?

BUILT Business is the workspace your shop runs from: requests, quotes and approvals, guided vehicle check-in, scheduling, your team, time clock, reports, and customer messages. It connects to the BUILT app drivers use, so customers can find your shop in Explore, book or request work, approve quotes, and follow the job in Live Workshop.

What kinds of shops is BUILT for?

Ten specialties: repair, suspension, wheels and tires, performance, fabrication, lighting, audio, tint, detailing, and wrap and PPF. A shop picks a primary category and can list every other service it offers.

How do I get started?

Book a demo. We walk through your workflow, then you create a BUILT Business account with a confirmed email, set up your shop profile and services, and invite your team.

What do I need to run it?

A web browser on a computer, tablet, or phone. Guided check-in uses the phone’s camera when you open it on a phone.

Do my customers need to download anything?

Customers use the BUILT app to find shops, request or book service, approve quotes, sign check-ins, message your shop, and follow their job.

Is BUILT available in Spanish?

Yes. The website and the app can be used in English or Spanish.

Customers and getting found

How do drivers find my shop?

Through BUILT Explore, the shop directory in the BUILT app. Drivers search by name, service, or specialty, filter by category, compare distance and drive time, and open your profile before sending a request.

What appears on my shop profile?

Your logo and cover photo, primary category and other specialties, hours, location, rating, verification badges you have earned, your services, BUILT reviews, and a Work Gallery of up to 50 photos and videos in the order you choose.

What does BUILT Verified mean?

It means BUILT reviewed and approved your business documentation. Badges are earned shop by shop; a listing never inherits another business’s verification. Google confirmation is a separate badge you earn by confirming your Google Business listing.

Where do reviews come from?

BUILT reviews come only from completed BUILT jobs. Google reputation is shown separately, and a subscription never removes legitimate feedback.

Can customers book without calling?

Yes, for services you mark eligible. AutoPilot shows real open times based on your hours and calendar, the customer approves your fixed price and scope, and the job starts in Live Workshop. Everything else arrives as a request for your team.

Quotes, approvals, and money

How do quotes work?

Build quotes from parts, labor, and fee lines. Labor can be hourly or flat rate, lines can be taxable or optional, and you can attach up to 12 photos or videos. The customer reviews each section and accepts and signs, requests changes, or declines.

What if the job grows after it starts?

Create an additional quote. The accepted original stays intact, and the new work gets its own approval and signature.

Does BUILT process payments?

Not today. Accepting a quote authorizes the work; it does not charge the customer. You can record payments, refunds, and costs in BUILT so reports and Profitability stay accurate.

Can I offer discounts or coupons?

Yes. Owners and managers can create percent or fixed-dollar coupons with dates, minimums, caps, and use limits. Front Desk discounts are saved as drafts until an owner or manager approves them.

Can BUILT remind customers about open quotes?

Yes. Quote follow-ups are off until you turn them on, then send up to two reminders on the schedule you set, with quiet hours. Reminders use in-app and push notifications, not email or text.

Are electronic signatures binding?

BUILT records the signer’s name, explicit consent, the exact document they approved, and the time, all together. It is not notarization or certified identity. For legal questions about your agreements, check with your attorney.

Check-in and Live Workshop

What does guided check-in record?

A required odometer reading and six required photos — front, driver side, rear, passenger side, front interior, and rear interior or cargo — plus optional condition notes, customer items, fuel level, and up to four extra photos or videos.

Does the customer have to approve check-in?

Yes. The customer reviews the mileage and photos and signs from their BUILT account. Vehicle Received stays pending until they do, so work cannot advance on an unacknowledged record.

What if we need to correct a check-in?

Corrections are added as dated amendments. The signed copy is never rewritten.

What can customers see in Live Workshop?

The job’s stage, the updates and files you share, quotes and job records, and your estimated completion time. Internal hold notes stay visible only to your shop.

How are customers notified?

Through in-app activity and push notifications on their device, based on their notification settings. Messages stay in BUILT; they are not sent as texts or emails.

Scheduling, team, and time

What roles can I give my team?

Manager, Front Desk, and Installer. Managers can run team schedules and job assignments, Front Desk handles requests, messages, and quotes, and installers see the jobs and conversations assigned to them. Only the owner sees financial reports and pay settings.

How do employees join my shop?

You create a private invitation code for the role. Each person uses their own BUILT account, and you can change their role, turn off access, or remove them at any time.

Can employees request time off or swap shifts?

Yes. They can request time off, a shift change, coverage, or a swap. Coverage and swaps need the coworker’s acceptance before a manager approves, and approved time off blocks conflicting shifts.

Does Time Clock run payroll?

No. Time Clock records clock-ins, breaks, and hours with server time and feeds the Time Clock Tracking report. It does not pay employees or turn hours into job labor costs automatically.

Do schedule changes notify the team?

Not yet. Schedule changes show in My Schedule, but they do not send push, email, or text notifications today.

AutoPilot

Is AutoPilot an AI chatbot?

AutoPilot is rules-based. It answers only from the services, scope, durations, and booking explanation your shop saves, and it is not connected to an AI language model.

Can AutoPilot take deposits?

No. Services that require a deposit become a request to your shop without reserving a time.

What happens when a customer asks something AutoPilot can’t answer?

It doesn’t guess. It offers a specific request addressed only to your shop, and nothing is sent until the customer submits it.

Reports, data, and integrations

What reports are included?

Nine categories: Favorites and Saved Reports, Sales and Profitability, Estimate/Invoice and ARO, Service Writer and Technician, Payments and Commission, Deferred Services and Customer, Digital Vehicle Inspection, Purchase Order and Vendor, and Time Clock Tracking.

Can I export my data?

Reports export to CSV or print to PDF, and saved views reopen with current data.

Can I bring my parts and labor catalog?

Yes. Import your parts, labor, and fees from a CSV file and review it before saving. Direct catalog import from other platforms is being set up — ask about it in your demo.

Does BUILT sync with QuickBooks or CARFAX?

Not today. BUILT does not sync invoices, payments, or accounting, and CARFAX history lookups are not active.

Can BUILT track inventory?

Yes. Stock Inventory tracks SKUs, suppliers, locations, costs, and low-stock levels with a full movement history. Quotes don’t deduct stock automatically.

Privacy and security

Who can see my customers’ contact details?

A customer’s phone and email appear only on booked jobs, and only for owners, managers, and front desk. Unbooked inquiries and other shops never receive them.

Who can see my shop’s financials?

Only the owner. Managers can run schedules, but financial reports and Profitability stay owner-only.

Is my shop’s history kept?

Yes. Signed documents, payment entries, and job records keep their history instead of being overwritten, and corrections are recorded as new entries.

Pricing

How much does BUILT Business cost?

One plan with every feature: $119.99 a month billed monthly, or $107.99 a month billed annually ($1,295.88 a year), which saves 10%.

Is there a free trial?

Yes. Every shop gets a 30-day free trial with the full plan.

Are there different tiers?

No. There is one plan, so you never have to upgrade to unlock a feature.

Are there limits on users or employees?

No. Add as many team members as your shop needs at no extra cost.

What if I have more than one location?

Each additional location is $50 a month, up to four locations. Groups with five or more locations are on Enterprise pricing — contact us for a quote.

Is there a setup fee?

No setup fee is required. If you’d like our team to set up your shop for you, guided setup is an optional one-time $250.

Is there a contract, and how does canceling work?

Yes, both plans have an agreement. On monthly billing, cancellation takes effect after the following month. On annual billing, you keep the current month and the following month, and the remaining months are refunded — for example, canceling 3½ months in keeps months 4 and 5 and refunds the other 7. Your agreement has the full terms.
